The Setup
Another dryline setup was facing us today. However, this was the return date of Tour 3A, and we would simply be dropping the guests off at the base hotel in Oklahoma City. SPC has an enhanced risk up in Iowa along the warm front and closer to the low pressure center. The dryline main event was a bit farther west over the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. In Oklahoma City, we had a marginal risk of severe storms. We had no plans to chase since it was a day for van maintenance and cleaning.
The Lightning
After taking care of some work at the hotel, I went out with some Norman friends in Bricktown. When I came back, there were high-based storms just to the west of OKC, and these storms had rather prolific cloud-to-ground lightning strikes given their intensity. Other guests were out taking pictures or simply admiring the storms. I decided to set up a camera looking out my hotel room window, which happened to face west. I caught a nice couple of strikes.
